Conference in Norman Takes Look at Energy Technologies

A conference on Oklahoma's emerging energy technologies is scheduled Sept. 27 in Norman.

Discovering Innovative Energy Solutions for Oklahoma's Future will be presented by the Oklahoma Renewable Energy Council at the National Center for Employee Development, 2701 E. Imhoff Road in Norman.

To remain a foremost energy-producing state, Oklahoma is continually looking at issues and opportunities related to the growing variety of energy resources, said Greg Adams, president of the council. These include both traditional and newer alternatives.

Participants will include Denise Bode, vice chairman of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission; Stanley Bull, National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Craig Christenson, GE Wind Energy; Bob Sullivan Jr., Sullivan and Co.; Steve Palomo, U.S. Department of Energy-Wind Powering America Program; state Rep. James Covey, D-Custer City; Kathy Taylor, state secretary of commerce and tourism; Susan Savage, secretary of state; Miles Tolbert, secretary of the environment; and Terry Peach, secretary of agriculture.

Topics will include biofuels, wind energy/ distribution, fossil fuel advances and energy education.

The conference is sponsored by the Oklahoma State Energy Office, U.S. Department of Energy, Oklahoma State University, American Electric Power/Public Service Co. of Oklahoma, Horizon Wind Energy, OG&E, Jolen Operating Co., Chermac Energy, Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, USDA Rural Development, Bode, Oklahoma Farmers Union, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality-Air Quality Division, Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives and Suzlon Wind Energy Corp.

Registration, which is required, costs $65 per person before Sept. 16. After Sept. 16, the cost is $75.
