DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers Adjusts Resin Prices

Posted on: Thursday, 15 September 2005, 12:00 CDT

WILMINGTON, Del., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers (P&IP) today announced price increases and surcharges for its ethylene copolymer product line. The increases and surcharges will range from 7 - 12 cents per pound, and will take effect in all regions between September 15 and October 1, 2005, or as customer contracts allow. Specific increases and surcharges will be communicated to customers by DuPont P&IP's regional sales and marketing organizations.

"We are doing all we can to hold costs in line and acknowledge that price increases and surcharges are difficult for our customers. However, we cannot totally absorb the recent increases in raw materials and transportation costs. At the same time, we will continue to invest in our production capability, innovation and new product development so we can continue to bring customers science-based products and offerings that add value to their business," said Craig F. Binetti, President, DuPont P&IP.

"Price adjustments are made necessary by sustained, record-high raw material and transportation costs, which have been further exacerbated by the effects of Hurricane Katrina," stated B. C. Chong, Vice President DuPont P&IP.

According to DuPont Corporate Economist Robert H. Shrouds in a report he issued September 12, "Prices of crude oil, natural gas and refined petroleum products have risen to record levels and are expected to remain elevated. Even when adjusted for inflation, crude oil prices are higher than at any time except the 1979-82 period, and natural gas prices are at record highs."
