Environmental Quality Ministry Warns About Nile Basin Pollution

Al-Khaleej newspaper quoted a notice published in early August 2005 by the Environmental Quality Ministry announcing a warning about an increase in the amount of air pollution in the Nile River region
. It was also announced that the Egyptian government loses EP 3 billion annually for the disposal of industrial, agricultural, tourist, and medical wastes from the river. The weight of industrial waste flowing into the Nile river comes to 4.5 million metric tons annually; the daily weight of these wastes which goes to the underground water sources comes to 270 metric tons.
