More Than 1,000 Illegal Coal Mines Probed in China's Taiyuan - HK Paper

Text of report by Yu Kuang and Tsai Ching entitled: "More than 1,000 privately developed coal mines investigated and dealt with in Taiyuan", published by Hong Kong newspaper Ta Kung Pao on 20 September
Taiyuan , 19 September: An investigation group jointly formed by the departments of Land, Public Security, Safety Supervision, Coal, and Discipline Inspection of Taiyuan city government in Shanxi Province found 1,228 privately developed mines during a five-month specialized fixing work project. There were 1,149 coal mines among them.
The reporter learned today that in accordance with the situations of these privately developed mines, the authorities will blow up more than 300 coal mines which have the danger of easily flaring up. As for the rest of the more than 800 coal mines, the Shanxi Province will provide 2bn yuan to construct special passages for the transport of electric coal.
