Moving in at the Zoo
Posted on: Monday, 26 September 2005, 21:00 CDT
Four African lions from the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species in New Orleans arrived at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo on Saturday. The New Orleans facility was not flooded when Hurricane Katrina struck, but it has limited staff now
. Seven African wildcats also were relocated to Omaha, but they are part of a research project and will not be on display. The zoo will house the animals until the New Orleans situation stabilizes. At top, a cat checks out its neighbors through a slot in a steel door. Above, zoo workers move a caged lion into place for release into the zoo's cat complex. The cat at left was a bit cranky when released into the complex but seemed to quickly adjust.Source: Omaha World - Herald
