Taiwan share prices close slightly up -- Sept. 26
HONG KONG, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Share prices on the Taiwan Stock Exchange went up 0.1 percent with a much thinner traded volume on Monday, according to reports reaching here from Taipei.
The weighted index, key barometer of the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose 4.66 points to close at 5,930.2.
The bourse opened at 5,967.69 and fluctuated between 5,975.98 and 5,894.99 during trading.
A total of 2.34 billion shares were transacted on a market turnover of 52.09 billion new Taiwan dollars (1.57 billion US dollars), down from the Friday's market turnover of 68.61 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.07 billion US dollars).
Four of the eight major stock categories gained ground, with cement stocks moving up the most at 1.1 percent, followed by textile stocks at 0.5 percent, machinery and electronics shares at 0.3 percent and banking and financial shares at 0.1 percent.
Three of the eight major stock categories lost ground, with construction issues moving down the most at 1 percent, followed by plastics and chemicals shares at 0.5 percent and foodstuff issues at 0.3 percent.
Paper and pulp issues remained unchanged.
Losers outnumbered gainers 467 to 424, with 174 stocks remaining unchanged.
