Much of Gulf Oil and Gas Production Remains Offline

Virtually all Gulf of Mexico oil production and about 80 percent of natural gas production remains shut in due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. About 1.5 million barrels of daily oil production, the entire Gulf output, and 7.9 billion cubic feet of daily natural gas production remain shut in. More than 36.4 million barrels of oil, or 6.6 percent of annual Gulf production, and 172.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas, or 4.7 percent of annual Gulf production have been shut in since Hurricane Katrina first disrupted oil production in late August.
