Oil production still remains largely shut in nearly a week after Hurricane Rita swept through the Gulf of Mexico.
Today's shut-in oil production is 1.47 million barrels of oil per day, or about 97.8 percent of the Gulf's daily production of 1.5 million BOPD, according to the Minerals Management Service. That figure is only a small improvement over yesterday's 98.5 percent shut in figure.
Shut-in gas production is 7.9 billion cubic feet per day, or about 79.4 percent of the 10 billion cubic feet per day normally produced in the Gulf. Yesterday, 80 percent of Gulf natural gas production was shut in.At least 471 of the 819 manned drilling platforms and 33 of the 134 drilling rigs operating in the Gulf remain evacuated because of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.
