Panoramic London City Skyline Made Out of Kitchen Pots

ABOUT 1,000 stainless steel kitchen utensils have gone into making this model of London.

The sculpture was created by Chinese artist Zhan Wang, who has previously recreated the cityscapes of Chicago and Beijing.

It is part of an exhibition opening this week at the Hayward Gallery which explores why we travel, with works from 50 international contemporary artists.

Mr Zhan's take on the London skyline uses pots and pans, gravy boats, teapots, cutlery and other utensils.

The Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Tate Modern, the Dome, St Paul's Cathedral, the River Thames and "The Gherkin" are all featured.

The artist says the sculpture represents "the struggle between tradition and progress - at its most basic level, the move from porcelain to stainless steel in the kitchen - as new materials change the way of life in China and across the globe".

A spokeswoman for the South Bank gallery said: "It looks stunning. It's really fun and very, very beautiful and the dry ice around it makes it look futuristic."

The exhibition consists of sculptures, large-scale film projections and intimate photographs by artists that include Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol and Thomas Hirschhorn.
