Scotts Promotes Targeted Ranges

Growing media producer Scotts has relaunched its Levmgton and Miracle-Gro ranges (HW. 15 September).
The new slogan is Fit For Purpose and the company wants to encourage gardeners to avoid what it calls mediocre results from multipurpose composts and switch to products that will grow plants to twice the size as m ordinary soil.
No compost m the Scotts ranges contains just peat as the substrate. In most cases, the products contain at least 20 per cent composted wood wastes, although some are completely peat free.
Some products, including those m the Miracle-Gro range, contain high levels ot nutrients that give long-term feeding to plants for up to three months. New to the Miracle-Gro range are Compact Compost and Ecosense soil improver, peat-free compost and Bulb Booster compost.
In the Levington range there is now a Tomonte giant planter, an Organic Choice giant vegetable planter and Naturescapes constant- colour mulch.
The Compact Compost plastic pack contains a brick of solidified coir compost with added Miracle-Gro fertilisers. The user adds water and a few minutes later, the product becomes a three-litre or nine- litre bag of ready-to-use compost.
The soil improver is made from a blend of composted waste materials and contains twice as much nutrient as garden soil. Scotts has enriched it with Mirade-Gro feed. It is available m a 56-litre pack.
The Bulb Booster compost has a coarse texture and is free draining. The company claims it is ideal for planting bulbs in outdoor tubs or mdoor containers. It is enriched with plant food to feed for up to three months. There are two sues eight litres and 20 litres.
