The Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation Hosts Forum to Address New Energy Fuels; ``Colorado's New Energy Technologies''

The Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation (OEMC) is hosting "Colorado's New Energy Technologies," October 19, at the Colorado State Capitol. The Forum will feature an exhibit area and two panel discussions. The panels will discuss Colorado's role and the potential benefits resulting in the advanced development and deployment of technologies in alternative fuels, hydrogen and fuel cells.

Speakers include experts from the public, private and industry sectors. The panels will be moderated by Dr. Bob Evans, Senior Scientist, from the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The first panel, "Alternative Fuels: Ethanol & Biodiesel" will discuss new developments with these fuels, including how they may help mitigate higher gasoline prices and whether they bring job opportunities to Colorado. Representatives from the following organizations will participate on this panel: BBI International, Sterling Ethanol, American Lung Association, Denver Metro Clean Cities, and Blue Sun Biodiesel.

The second panel, "Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Technology Overview" will provide an update on current research, applications and discuss commercial availability. Utility representatives will discuss what role hydrogen and fuel cell technologies have to offer. Additionally, new project announcements are to be revealed during this panel. The panel includes speakers from Colorado Fuel Cell Center, Ft. Collins Utilities, and Xcel Energy.

"Colorado is fortunate to be rich in energy resources. We have a strong infrastructure from the national laboratories, our universities, and leading companies in emerging energy technologies. OEMC is hosting this Forum to promote the ways that new energy technologies may help provide reliable, affordable, clean fuels to the state," said Drew Bolin, OEMC director.

The public is invited to the Forum and the exhibits. Several fuel cell demonstrations will be featured in the exhibit, which is located on the West Steps of the Capitol, and open from Noon to 4 p.m. The Forum is free, but space is limited to the first 150 attendees inside the Old Supreme Court Chambers.
