AGL Resources Solicits Bids for Storage Capacity Becoming Available in 2006 at Jefferson Island Storage & Hub

Posted on: Tuesday, 18 October 2005, 15:00 CDT

Atlanta-based AGL Resources (NYSE:ATG) today announced that it is soliciting bids for firm and interruptible natural gas storage services that will be available in early 2006 at the company's Pivotal Energy Development (Pivotal) Jefferson Island Storage & Hub (JISH), a salt cavern storage facility in Louisiana.

JISH will have 300 million decatherm (MDth) of storage capacity available beginning January 1, 2006, and another 1,100 MDth available beginning April 1, 2006.

"We're opening the bidding process now for the capacity that will be available at JISH next year as a result of contracts expiring," said Dana Grams, senior vice president of Business Development at Pivotal, the AGL Resources' business unit responsible for managing the JISH assets.

Located near the Henry Hub at Erath, Louisiana in Vermillion and Iberia Parishes, JISH is a high-deliverability storage facility capable of multiple inventory cycles per year. The facility consists of two salt dome gas storage caverns with 10,000 MDth of total capacity, and about 7250 MDth of working gas capacity. Currently, JISH has 720 MDth per day (MDth/d) withdrawal capacity and 240 MDth/d injection capacity. Installation is nearing completion on the new 8,000 horsepower compressor, which will increase injection ability by 50 percent, to 360 MDth/d.

The JISH header system has interconnections with eight pipelines including direct access to the Henry Hub via Sabine Pipeline. JISH also is connected to Crosstex (Louisiana Intrastate Gas), Texas Gas Transmission, Columbia Gulf Transmission, Sea Robin Pipeline, Tennessee Gas Pipeline, Gulf South Pipeline and NGPL.
