China's farm products are safe, official
BEIJING, Oct 19 (Xinhua) -- Latest inspection reports show that China's farm products are generally safe, said an official with the Ministry of Agriculture here Tuesday.
Zhang Yuxiang, director in charge of the ministry's market supervision department, said the ministry has launched three regular checks this year. The result shows that most farm produce consumed in China meet international standards.
Statistics show that pesticide residues in 94.2 percent of vegetables, 97.8 percent of lean livestock meat and 96.2 percent of aquicultural products meet standards.
This indicated that the ministry's measures to strengthen the quality control of farm products in recent years had been successful, said Zhang.
Zhang admitted that there are still some problems in farm product quality control and the ministry needs to pursue its efforts in this regard.
She also said the ministry had finished drafting the law on quality control of farm products, and had submitted it to other government departments for deliberation.
