Oil and Gas Production Still Lagging in the Gulf

The lingering effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita continues to hamper recovery of Gulf of Mexico oil and gas production.About 32.7 percent of Gulf oil production is back online today, up 3.7 percent from yesterday and more than 10 percent higher than last Friday. About a million barrels per day of Gulf oil production remains shut in due to the storms.
About 43.5 percent of natural gas production is back online, up 3.5 percent from yesterday and up from 36 percent Friday. About 5.6 billion cubic feet of daily natural gas production remain shut in.About 1.5 million barrels of oil and 10 billion cubic feet of natural gas are produced in the Gulf each day under normal circumstances.According to the MMS, 232 of the 819 manned platforms and 12 of the 134 manned drilling rigs operating in the Gulf remain evacuated.
