Alcoa Inc. is looking to buy a power plant to provide electricity to its threatened Eastalco Works aluminum smelting plant in Frederick County. Eastalco is searching within a 100-mile radius of Buckeystown for an available generator, Plant Manager Brian Dahlberg told the Frederick News-Post. The company has notified all but 40 of its 640 workers the plant will likely close Dec. 15 because of sharply higher electricity costs.
