China Can Develop Hydro-Electric Power
October 23, 2005
China is using only 25 percent of its hydro-electric power capacity and an expert says focusing on development also would improve the country’s environment.
Gu Hongbin of the China Hydroelectricity Project Consulting Group said only 24.6 percent of the installed hydro-electric generator capacity was used at the end of 2004, the Xinhua News Service reported.
He compared that with 73.7 percent of total capacity used by thermal-electric generators, a method which pollutes the environment.
Hongbin urged an all out focus on developing hydro-electric generators like in Norway.
Hydro-electric power fuels 63.3 percent of electric consumption in Norway.
