Siemens Foundation Announces Semi-Finalists in Nation's Premier High School Science Competition

ISELIN, N.J., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Siemens Foundation has announced the Semi-Finalists in the 2005-06 Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science & Technology, the nation's premier science research competition for high school students. 335 students from 36 states, as well as the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and an American school in Taiwan, were chosen as Semi-Finalists out of 1,684 students who registered to enter the competition this year. The Siemens Westinghouse Competition, a signature program of the Siemens Foundation, is America's leading research-based science and mathematics competition for high school students. The competition awards college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 and is administered by the College Board.
Up to 30 individual students and 30 teams (of two or three members) will be selected from the pool of Semi-Finalists to compete at regional competitions hosted by six leading research universities: The University of Texas at Austin; University of California, Berkeley; University of Notre Dame; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Georgia Institute of Technology; and Carnegie Mellon University. Regional Finals take place over three consecutive weekends in November, beginning on November 4, 2005.
Winners of the regional competitions are invited to compete at the National Finals, which will take place for the first time this year in New York City, December 2-4 at New York University.
