Anheuser-Busch Companies, one of the world's largest recyclers of aluminum beverage containers, has committed more than $160,000 for the 2005 Keep America Beautiful (KAB)/Anheuser-Busch Recycling Grants Program. As part of the program, 19 KAB affiliates nationwide will receive funding for their community-based, voluntary beverage container recycling programs.
Earlier this year, Anheuser-Busch sought grant proposals for innovative programs and partnerships designed to increase awareness of beverage container recycling and collection through voluntary efforts. Programs receiving grants ranged from event recycling, awareness campaigns and collection systems, to school-based initiatives. "At Anheuser-Busch, we see value in effective, community-based beverage container recycling programs like these," said Lise Herren, executive vice president and chief operating officer in the Anheuser-Busch Packaging Group, St. Louis, who also serves on the board of directors of KAB. "These programs are not only engaging and educational for community members, but they also have positive, lasting impacts on community involvement in recycling and anti-litter efforts."
"Keep America Beautiful's network of affiliates provides long-term solutions to local quality-of-life issues," said G. Raymond Empson, president of Keep America Beautiful. "We're pleased Anheuser-Busch is providing this much-needed support for initiatives that are important to communities across the country."
