Many Singaporeans support energy efficiency measures: survey

SINGAPORE, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Many Singaporeans support more energy-efficient measures and cutting down on product packaging to reduce waste, according to the results of a survey released on Tuesday.

The survey was conducted from May to August by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources as part of a review of the Singapore Green Plan 2012.

According to the Internet survey, which was participated by about 2,800 people, 67 percent of the respondents felt that more can be done to address the issue of carbon dioxide emissions.

Ninety-three percent of the respondents supported making it compulsory for all household appliances to carry efficiency labels and for all vehicles to carry fuel efficiency labels.

Ninety-four percent of the respondents agreed that measures should be taken to encourage manufacturers to reduce the amount of product packaging and help minimize waste.

Packaging for many products in Singapore make up almost one- third of the waste disposed of.
