Iraq to Increase Fuel Prices By 100-200 Per Cent - Iraqi TV

Posted on: Wednesday, 26 October 2005, 12:00 CDT

Text of report by Iraqi Al-Sharqiyah TV on 26 October

Al-Sharqiyah Television has learnt that the Iraqi Council of Ministers has decided to increase the prices of oil derivatives by 100-200 per cent as of the end of the year 2005.

Accordingly, regular petrol prices will be increased from 20 to 50 dinars per litre [an increase of 30 dinars per litre]; premium petrol prices will be increased from 50 to 100 dinars per litre; diesel prices will be increased from 10 to 30 dinars per litre; kerosene prices will be increased from five to 10 dinars per litre; and butane gas cylinder prices will be increased from 250 to 500 dinars per cylinder.

Iraq has been suffering from a considerable crisis in all oil derivatives as long queues of cars wait for long hours at the petrol stations to fill their cars with petrol, something that has generated countless complaints by citizens, who sense unfairness in a country considered one of the most oil-rich countries of the world.
