Biblical Facts Support Science of Evolution

Thank you to Mr. Geller for his response ("Intelligent design can't be called science," YourViews, Sept. 11) to my recent letter ("Intelligent design is supported by facts," YourViews, Sept. 4).
He stated the Second Law of Thermodynamics applied genetically means we must sustain increasing degradation with each generation. This is true. Harmful radiation and chemicals introduced into our bodies damage sperm and egg DNA, leading to defective genes. There is historical evidence that ancient people typically lived hundreds of years. Life span has increased in recent centuries primarily because of improved hygiene and nutritional practices.
Mr. Geller also stated "evolution ... relies on the fittest species surviving as it adapts to the environment." This is true for existing species but doesn't apply to chemistry, to which the theory of evolution attributes our beginnings.
In this area, evolutionists are asking us to make a great leap of faith, which makes their rejection of intelligent design puzzling. Their behavior may be explained by the "ruling theory trap," which occurs when a person's thinking is so prejudiced by the theory he has been taught that his judgment is affected.
A scientist may consciously or unconsciously accept evidence that supports the theory and ignore evidence that doesn't fit. Intelligent design, supported by scientific observation, deserves a place in the science classroom.
Mr. Geller also reasoned a Creator's existence probably couldn't occur by chance. I agree. Perhaps the Creator has no beginning or end, like a calculus equation which begins and ends with infinity. Perhaps the Creator is unbounded by time. Einstein's theory of relativity purports time stops relative to an object which achieves the speed of light. This supports the omnipotence and omnipresence attributed to the Creator in Biblical accounts. The Bible itself is a highly accurate historical work boasting 20,000-plus external validations.
My training includes probability of events and a degree in nuclear engineering. I am well qualified to speak on the subjects of atoms, molecules, chemistry, radiation, etc.
Despite my credentials, you should always double check the facts for yourself. Don't rely on the editorial page. Read the Bible. Surf the Web. Additional resources include: "It Couldn't Just Happen" -- Richards, "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" -- McDowell, "Dinosaurs by Design" -- Gish/Snellenberger.
