Oct. 26--REDLANDS -- When Dorothy Ann Bracken wasn't feeding the birds on her farm, she was connecting people in the community as an operator and later in a restaurant.
Bracken, a resident of Redlands, died Oct. 20. The cause of death was not available. She was 74.
She was born March 28, 1931, in El Paso, Texas, and moved with her family to Colton when she was 13.
As a youth growing up in Colton, Bracken attended Colton High School and graduated from there in 1949.
After high school, she married Joe Bracken. The couple later went into business together as owners of Bracken Bird Farm in Redlands.
Before that, Bracken worked for Pacific Bell in San Bernardino as a telephone operator, from 1956 to 1961.
She was a hostess at Kay's Cafe in Highland since 1992 and stopped working in 2002.
Survivors include her daughters, Jolyn Bracken of Arizona, and Jonell Kirkuff, Joann Izydorek and Joella Bracken, all of Redlands.
Services will be private. Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands handled the arrangements.
