Piedmont Natural Gas Increasing Toll-Free Capacity to Handle Unprecedented Call Volume
Posted on: Wednesday, 2 November 2005, 15:00 CST
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Piedmont Natural Gas said today it is providing additional toll-free telephone support to its customers and encouraging them to visit two Web sites in order to turn their gas on this winter.
The sudden onset of cold weather, combined with the recently announced increase in heating bills this year, have dramatically increased Piedmont's customer call volume, resulting in long call wait times or the inability to get through. To expedite customer requests for service turn-on, Piedmont is urging customers with access to the Internet to visit http://www.piedmontng.com/ and http://www.naturalgasanswers.com/.
"Our main concern right now is that customers who are calling to turn on service for the winter heating season are able get through," said June B. Moore, vice president of customer service for Piedmont. "We ask our customers with internet access to visit either of our Web sites for immediate access to all of our services. This will help free up phone capacity so our customers without access to the internet may get through to a customer service representative."
Beginning today, customers now have more options when requesting turn-on of their natural gas service.
1-800-752-7504 - Piedmont's representatives are equipped to address all natural gas service requests and field general inquiries about natural gas heating costs this winter.
1-866-207-6954 - With Piedmont's new toll-free number, additional representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. (EST) or 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. (CST).
"We clearly understand and accept that the wait times experienced by our customers in the last few weeks are not acceptable both from a customer service standpoint and from our own performance expectations," said Moore. "By setting up this additional toll-free number and encouraging our customers to utilize the two Web sites, we are hopeful that wait times will be reduced."
