More residents, in search of the American Dream, are calling San Joaquin County's mid-sized cities home, according to state population figures.
Cities like Lodi and Manteca, which for years have ranked third and fourth in total population, are now virtually the same size, boasting 62,467 and
61,927 residents respectively, according to a report issued by the state Department of Finance.
Despite Measure A, a slow-growth ordinance, Tracy still ranks second in total population, with 78,307 residents as of Jan. 1
Stockton remains the most populated city in San Joaquin, with 279,513 residents.
Sky-rocketing housing prices in the Bay Area, as well as the long- term wishes of the residents who comprise each individual city in the county, are driving population trends in this part of the Central Valley, said Andrew Chesley, deputy director of the San Joaquin Council of Governments.
