Novovoronezh (Voronezh Region), 6 November: The No 2 generator at the No 5 power unit of Novovoronezh nuclear power plant was today put back into operation after it was stopped by an automatic safety system, Viktor Boldyrev, controller of the No 5 unit, has told ITAR- TASS.
One of the power unit's two generators was stopped on Saturday [5 November]. "It was a false alarm from the safety system, and nothing to do with the operation of the unit itself, which remained under 50- per-cent load," Boldyrev explained. The fault was rectified within 24 hours, whereupon the power plant's engineers tested the instrumentation and the generator was restarted.
Novovoronezh's No 5 unit, which has a VVER-1000 reactor rated at 1,000,000 kW, came on stream in 1980 and was the first power unit of the type at the country's nuclear power plants.
The radiation situation at the plant and in the adjacent area is within the norm.
