OK Dept. Of Commerce Participates in EPA's Energy Star-Change a Light Campaign

Employees at the Oklahoma Department of Commerce purchased 214 energy-efficient light bulbs as part of the Energy Star-Change a Light campaign.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's annual Energy Star campaign was started to urge Americans to replace a light in their homes to a more energy-efficient one to save energy.

The State Energy Office estimates that Department of Commerce employees will save $800 to $1,200 annually in energy costs on their combined annual electric bill.

As the State Energy Office, we wanted to show other state employees how easy it is to make a change in their own energy use, and how those little changes can add up quickly, said Clayton Robinson, energy program manager for the State Energy Office. The emissions reductions from just the employees of one state agency are quite striking, but if every household in Oklahoma traded just one 60 Watt bulb with an equivalent energy efficient bulb, it would be like taking more than 73,000 cars off the road for a year.
