Oil Production Recovery in Gulf of Mexico Crosses Halfway Mark

More than half of Gulf of Mexico oil production is back online today, the first time production has reached that level in nine weeks, according to the Minerals Management Service.Almost 51 percent of daily Gulf oil production, or more than 761,000 barrels of daily production, was back online today. Under normal conditions, about 1.5 millio barrels of oil are produced in the Gulf each day.Nearly 59 percent of daily natural gas production, or about 5.9 billion cubic feet of daily production, is back online. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, about 10 billion cubic feet of natural gas was produced in the Gulf each day.According to oil company reports, 195 of the 819 manned drilling rigs and five of the 134 manned drilling platforms remain evacuated due to storm damage.
