Nov. 12–Eligible farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers have until Dec. 5 to cast ballots for seats on the Sutter/Yuba County Committee of the federal Farm Service Agency.
FSA County Executive Director Linda Quinn said the election period for the committee started Monday.
Producers who participate or cooperate in any FSA programs and are 18 years old can vote. A person supervising and conducting operations on an entire farm, but not of legal voting age, also can vote.
Quinn said FSA committees provide recommendations on commodity price support loans and payments, conservation programs and disaster assistance. The Sutter/Yuba committee consists of five members with additional appointed advisors to represent minority and women farmers and ranchers.
The local mail-ballot elections are being held in Local Area 1, which covers the north third of Sutter County. It is also being held in Local Area 4 in Yuba County, which covers north of the Yuba River.
“The Sutter/Yuba Committee is vital,” Quinn said in a statement. “The committee helps implement federal farm programs, working to assist the county’s agricultural producers.”
Ballot are being sent to eligible voters. They must be returned to the local FSA office by Dec. 5 or carry a postmark of the same date.
A list of specific candidates are included on the ballots..
