HelioVolt Named Member Company of the Year By Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association; Austin-Based Solar Energy Technology Company Recognized for CIGS Photovoltaics

Posted on: Tuesday, 15 November 2005, 12:00 CST

At today's Texas Renewables '05 conference in Houston HelioVolt Corporation, a solar energy technology company, will be named Member Company of the Year by Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA). TREIA will recognize HelioVolt for its advances in the commercialization of copper indium gallium selenide-based (CIGS) photovoltaics and HelioVolt's exceptional efforts towards the advancement of renewable energy industries in Texas.

"We've set out to introduce a significantly more efficient way to manufacture and install CIGS," says BJ Stanbery, Ph.D., founder and CEO of HelioVolt. "This award validates our continuing efforts to commercialize our FASST(TM) technology as we strive to make solar power more widely available. We expect to make a significant impact in the renewable energy potential for lives of this generation and for those to come."

HelioVolt has invented the fastest and most efficient way to manufacture thin film photovoltaic platforms surfaced with CIGS, the most reliable and best-performing thin film material for generating electricity from sunlight. HelioVolt plans to partner with building materials manufacturers to incorporate its attractive, high-performance thin-film solar technology directly into building materials including: metal and polymer roofing, skylights, and architectural glass. Their patented FASST(TM) technology can apply CIGS coatings in a way that will enable architects and contractors to use a building's "skin" to self-power it. Use of this new breed of construction materials transforms building exteriors into solar-powered electrical generating systems that reduce the buildings operating costs, and can also be configured to provide back-up power.

"In order to be more cost-effective and become more commonplace, photovoltaics must make significant advancements in efficiency and manufacturing processes," says Russel Smith, TREIA's executive director. "HelioVolt has stepped up on both counts. We are pleased to count Dr. Stanbery's leading edge company among our members."

TREIA annually awards individuals, companies, organizations and agencies whose efforts made an exceptional contribution toward advancement of the renewable energy industries in Texas. Other winners were recognized in categories that include: Project of the Year, Individual Member of the Year, Special Recognition Award, and TREIA State Leadership Award. This year's honorees will accept their awards at the Awards Luncheon held during the Texas Renewables '05 conference.

About HelioVolt

HelioVolt Corporation was founded in 2001 in order to develop and market new technology for applying thin-film photovoltaic coatings to conventional construction materials. The company's proprietary FASST(TM) process, based on rapid semiconductor printing, was invented by HelioVolt founder Dr. Billy J. Stanbery, an eminent expert within the international PV community in the materials science of CIS and related compound semiconductors. FASST(TM) is a low-cost, flexible manufacturing process for CIGS synthesis and is protected by both eight issued US patents and by global patents pending.
