‘Einstein and Women,’ Music Among Free Events at Brown

Brown University’s celebration of the International Year of Physics wraps up this week with a few events.

Today, Nina Byers, a professor of physics at the University of California at Los Angeles, presents a talk titled, “Einstein and Women.” That’s at 4:30 p.m. in Room 166 of the Barus and Holley building, 182 Hope St., Providence.

At 7 p.m. in the Grand Recital Hall, 1 Young Orchard Ave., violinist Jack Liebeck will play the music of Beethoven, Debussy and Elgar, with opening remarks relating physics to the music of a violin, reportedly Albert Einstein’s favorite instrument.

On Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. in the Solomon Center, on Brown’s main green between George and Waterman Streets, Alan Lightman, professor of Humanities at MIT, will talk on “Writing the Science Narrative.”

All the events are free and open to the public.
