Claims of Evolution Have No Basis in Fact

November 17, 2005

Larry Alferink’s letter in support of evolution is clear example of the hypocrisy of its proponents, (“Debate on evolution based on common errors,” YourViews, Nov. 2).

He claims the theory of evolution supports the facts of evolution. He, of course, gives no facts to support this claim. Claims are easy, proof is another matter.

For the sake of argument, let’s take a theory of evolution that most are familiar with, “the big bang.” Evolutionary theory claims this to be the catalyst that started it all, but do we know for a fact that it happened? We have no eyewitness testimony to its occurrence and itcannot be replicated in a controlled environment eliminating scientific evidence in support. It is a theory, contrived by people in the here and now to explain how phenomena observed in the here and now came to be.

Belief in the big- bang requires faith. That’s religion, but supporters of evolution don’t want their beliefs held to the same standards they demand of others. Mr. Alferlink then gives three arguments to support order out of chaos: snowdrifts, a contractor turning stacks of materials into a house and salt crystals after water has evaporated.

Anyone who’s shoveled snow can attest to the idiocy of that argument. The contractor argument favors intelligent design not evolution. Change the word for the intelligent contractor to designer and you’ll understand the foolishness in it. Salt crystals left in a glass after water has evaporated are anything but orderly. They are not stacked one on the other in neat rows, they are haphazard at best.

He claims that examples of intermediary species do exist, but again gives no examples or evidence to support his position. Are we to accept his position because he says so? His letter is full of irrational arguments and claims without evidence.
