Al-Khaleej newspaper quoted a government source who said in late September 2005 that the Algerian government will not succeed in implementing its plan to produce a daily quantity of 1.5 million barrels of oil by the end of 2005. He estimated that untapped oil reserves come to about forty billion barrels. The paper quoted President of the Algerian government Sonatrak Oil Company, Muhammad Mazyan, who said that the number of working oil wells comes to eight for every ten thousand kilometers, compared to one hundred wells in the rest of the world.
