Science Fair Needs Volunteer Judges
By MARY MARAGHY
Organizers, gearing up for Clay County’s annual student science fair, need volunteers to help with judging.
About 350 students in junior high and high school in all Clay’s public schools and four private schools are expected to enter projects in the Clay Rotary Regional Science and Engineering Fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Green Cove Springs on State Road 16.
About 14 projects will advance to the state competition and two to the international level.
There’s a desperate need for judges in botany, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering and physics, said organizer Brenda Weeks. Other categories include behavioral sciences, computer science/ math, earth space science, environmental science, medicine and health, microbiology and zoology.
Weeks is also seeking businesses or individuals to donate cash or gifts as prizes. Contact her at 272-8100 extension 2434 or send an e- mail to bweeks @mail.clay.k12.fl.us.
Those willing to judge should call Lillian Bell with the Rotary Club of Clay County at 264-0209 or send an e-mail to lafwbell@aol.com.mary.maraghy@jacksonville.com,(904) 278-9487 extension 19
