Three Polish coal miners confirmed dead in methane blast
WARSAW, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) — The body of a third miner killed by a methane blast was recovered Wednesday at the Zofiowka coal mine in Jastrzebia Zdroj, southern Poland.
The blast, which occurred 900 meters underground the previous day, killed three miners. Two escaped to the surface unscathed, Polish media said.
The blast flung tons of coals and terrane, jamming the tunnel, making it impossible for the three miners to escape. The bodies of the other two had been found on Tuesday night.
The cause of the blast was still under investigation. Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz had been at the scene to inspect the rescue work.
