Pounds 100,000 MINERS

November 27, 2005

OUT-OF-WORK British miners are being offered pounds 100,000 a year to work Down Under.

The coal industry in Australia looked to be going the same way as pits in the UK.

But the discovery of huge underground deposits, plus massive demand from China, has seen a rebirth.

In Queensland and New South Wales, mining is booming so much that pit bosses can’t find enough experienced workers.

Now the Australian government says it will give priority to ex- English and Welsh mine workers to help them start a new life Down Under.
