China Has to Face the Pollution of Water

November 30, 2005

China has to face the pollution of water. Roughly 50% of a total of 1.3 bil inhabitants in China, 600 mil persons, drink water contaminated by waste. The majority of 20 bil tonnes of waste/y, which is produced by chinese cities and towns, ends directly in rivers and lakes. China discharges a similar quantity of organic poisonous substances as the USA, Japan and India together. The contamination of water in China is connected with a high occurrence of yellow jaundice, diarrhoea, the cancer of stomach and liver and other diseases. Two-thirds of cities and towns in China have a lack of drinking water. The situation is being worsened by the quick growth of the economy, non-environmental projects and the growing number of inhabitants.
