MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company Wins Global Energy Award

DES MOINES, Iowa, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company received the Platts 2005 Global Energy Award last night for Renewables Project of the Year for the development of its 360.5-megawatt Iowa wind project.
The award was presented at a ceremony in New York City attended by approximately 400 top energy executives from around the world.
"We are honored to receive the Renewables Project of the Year award," said MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company chairman and chief executive officer David Sokol. "The Iowa wind project is just one of MidAmerican's 14 renewable energy facilities worldwide that produce a total of approximately 1,500 megawatts of green power, representing about 17 percent of our generation portfolio."
The 360.5-megawatt wind energy project is one of the largest land-based wind projects in the world. The project consists of 257 turbines located in northwest and north central Iowa, which provide enough capacity to serve approximately 100,000 homes.
Energy information provider Platts sponsors the Global Energy Awards. Criteria for the Renewables Project of the Year required that the winner demonstrate all-around superior performance in the suitability and sustainability of the project, the level of innovative skill shown, the effectiveness of long-range planning and the return on investment. Judges looked for a project that truly advances the case for continued and sustained investment in renewable energy.

Other finalists for the Renewables Project of the Year included Exelon Corporation, PECO Energy and PowerLight Corporation.
