Songhua River pollution slick approaches more northward NE China city
HARBIN, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The pollution spill belt on the Songhua River approached the more northward city of Jiamusi Tuesday morning, a city on the river's lower reaches in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, with nitrobenzene densities moderately changed.
At 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, the nitrobenzene density at the section of Dalianhe River monitoring post, a more northward section in the downstream of the Songhua River, stood at 0.1542 mg per litre, 8.07 times higher than the safety level which was sharply down from 0.2587 mg per litre reported at 2:00 p.m. Monday, the local monitoring source said, adding the benzene density was normal, measuring 0.0058 mg per litre.
Jiamusi, the second largest city of the province with over 2 million people, has tightened monitoring of water quality and launched surveillance at several sites.
