SPOKANE, Wash., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy expert and author Richard Jablin delivered the keynote address today to the Washington Public Utility Districts Association annual meeting in Spokane, WA. The theme of the conference, "Ideas Take Flight," focused on the feasibility of alternative energy sources.
In his remarks, Jablin, author of the newly released "The Transportation Solution: Kicking Gasoline Dependency," proposed an innovative, alternative system, a Unified Transportation Network of high-speed trains that links with a practical system of urban electric vehicles.
These consumer-friendly vehicles would dramatically ease traffic, reduce the need for parking, greatly diminish air pollution and provide an effective means of shifting our desperate reliance from petroleum to electricity, Jablin said.
"To keep America moving, the answers lie in using existing technology to change current methods of transportation," said Jablin. "Electricity is an abundant and accessible power source that can be utilized right now. Americans are indicating willingness and a desire to change our ingrained behaviors and begin to make dramatic societal changes that will have enormous benefit."
Energy Department consultants warned Congress earlier this year that "the world is fast approaching the inevitable peaking" of global oil production -- a problem "unlike any faced by modern industrial society," according to a recent story in the Sacramento Bee. They wrote that the United States and other nations are in a race with the clock to find alternative sources for oil -- "the lifeblood of modern civilization" -- and to avoid potential economic disaster.
Jablin implored conference attendees to call on America's best and brightest from government, business and education to break the chokehold of imported oil from potentially unfriendly nations and consider alternatives, such as the Unified Transportation Network, which are available and feasible today. "The future of our society depends on it," added Jablin.
Jablin is a professional engineer who has been devising creative solutions to complex industrial challenges for fifty years. His expertise includes optimizing energy efficiency, controlling emissions from fuel combustion, and reducing air and water pollution.
