Solihull News: Black Day for Green Action ; ENVIRONMENT

FAMILIES in Solihull are trailing those in many other parts of the West Midlands when it comes to getting their household waste recycled. A new survey shows that households in the borough see just 11 per cent recycled compared to those in Lichfield which manages an impressive 22 per cent. In fact Lichfield came top in a West Midlands recycling league table and tenth nationally.

Wychavon and Worcester recycle more than 15 per cent of their waste while at the other end of the West Midlands league, Wolverhampton recycles four per cent, Walsall five per cent and Sandwell six per cent.

Birmingham was ranked 21 out of 34, and Solihull came out 14th, recycling 11 per cent of waste.

The survey, by the GMB union, revealed that out of 353 English councils, the average recycled was 13 per cent.

At the top of the league was East Hampshire, recycling 32 per cent and Liverpool was lowest with a figure of just 4 per cent.
