Update: Rescue work enters fifth day, six miners remain missing in NE China coalmine flooding
CHANGCHUN, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Rescue work has entered a fifth day in the flooded colliery in the capital of Jilin Province on Tuesday with hope fading for the six miners who have been trapped in the pit since last Thursday.
Rescuers said water in the pit, which is 1.8 meters deep, could be completely pumped out by Wednesday. Rescuers have tried unsuccessfully to reach the miners three times.
The colliery flood occurred at Changling coal mine in Changchun at 3 am Thursday. Seven miners were working underground at the time, only one has been rescued, a local source said.
