As part of Progress Energy's mutual-aid agreement with the regional utility companies that comprise the Southeastern Electric Exchange, crews will depart from various North Carolina and South Carolina locations today, to assist Duke Power in its restoration efforts in the Piedmont and western portions of the Carolinas.
"Progress Energy crews have a great deal of experience with winter storm restoration," said Lee Mazzocchi, Progress Energy Carolinas' system storm coordinator. "We are glad that we can assist Duke Power in its restoration efforts, just as our customers have benefited from help from other utilities after major storms here. We and our customers know how important it is to have as many people as possible helping to get the lights back on."
The ice storm has created some problems for customers in Progress Energy's western North Carolina service area (around Asheville), but the remainder of Progress Energy's Carolinas service area has been largely unaffected by the winter weather. The company will maintain adequate resources in place to handle any unexpected outages quickly and safely.
