Reading Eagle, Pa., Business Log Column: Carpenter Senior Vice President to Retire in August

Dec. 17--Terrence E. Geremski, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Carpenter Technology Corp., Spring Township, will retire in August to spend more time with his family.

Geremski will continue in his job until a new CFO is selected, which is expected to occur before June 30, the end of the company's fiscal year.

Geremski assumed the CFO role in January 2001 and was instrumental in the restructuring process undertaken at Carpenter.

Carpenter has hired an executive search firm to conduct the search for a replacement.

The Berks Business Executives Forum elected its officers at its regular quarterly meeting. The officers are Jay S. Sidhu, chairman; Albert Boscov, vice chairman; Charles Sullivan, vice chairman; Gerard Johnson, treasurer; and Kevin Timochenko, secretary.

Judy's on Cherry, Fourth and Cherry streets, was awarded a small business advantage grant for $7,500 by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The restaurant will use the funds to purchase and install wall and ceiling insulation to improve energy conservation. The grant is a 50 percent match up to $7,500.

R. Scott Smith Jr ., president and chief operating officer of Fulton Financial Corp ., Lancaster, will become chairman, president and CEO when Rufus A. Fulton Jr. retires Dec. 31.

The rest of Fulton's seniormanagement team will be Charles J. Nugent, senior executive vice president and chief financial officer; Richard J. Ashby Jr ., senior executive vice president who will head the community banking group; James E. Shreiner, senior administrative services officer; Craig H. Hill, human-resources; and E. Philip Wenger, chairman and CEO of Fulton Bank.

Nitza Fontanez has reopened Nitza's Hair Design and Day Spa , 141 N. Fifth St., which closed due to a fire.

Fontanez said she spent $300,000 to renovate the historic building.

Her business has operated in Reading for the last 14 years and employs seven full-time hair specialists. The renovated location will offer services including pedicures, massages and aroma therapy.

Legacy Brewing Co ., a microbrewery at 545 Canal St., has introduced its first bottled product, Hedonism. The red ale is available in cases and bottles through distributors and bars in central and eastern Pennsylvania.

Its provocative label artwork was created by Deric Hettinger from Oxygen for the Arts, next to Legacy Brewing.
