Dec. 17--The PAL Center for the Arts of the Olivet Boys' and Girls' Club will present "Christmas in Oz" at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the center at 328 Walnut St.

The show was originally scheduled for Dec. 15 but was postponed because of snow.

It features youths from the center's performing arts programs. It is a musical comedy loosely based on "The Wiz," the urban version of "The Wizard of Oz."

The performers range in age from 6 to 17, and almost all had a hand in putting the show together.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. For more information, call 610-373-8910.

Boscov's Department Stores and its customers recently donated more than 800 pounds of candy to U.S. troops stationed overseas.

For every $50 purchase, customers could request that Boscov's donate a bag of candy in their name.

In addition to sending the candy, customers also took time to write personal messages and send holiday cards to help make the season a little brighter for the troops away from home.

Ephrata's past will be revisited in the annual lantern tours being held Tuesday through Friday at the Ephrata Cloister, a historic site located on Route 322 at Route 272 in Ephrata.

The one-hour tours will feature stories of the 18th century community's acts of kindness to widows, the poor, refugees during the French and Indian War and wounded soldiers in the Revolutionary War.

The actors for the tours are members of the Student Historians of the Ephrata Cloister, junior and senior high students who serve as volunteers at the site.

The tours will be combined with a food drive for Ephrata Area Social Services. For every two nonperishable food items donated, the donor may enter his name into a drawing for a prize basket from the museum store worth more than $200.

Food items are to be brought to the Cloister on the evenings of the tours.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and $5 for ages 6 to 17.

Reservations are required for the tours, which leave the visitors center every half hour between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Call 717-733-6600.

The New Year's Eve Celebration, sponsored by the County of Berks, will again be held at the Sovereign Center, 700 Penn St.

Sovereign Bank has donated $10,000 to support the safe drug, alcohol and smoke-free occasion for families to ring in the new year.

Admission is $10 and children under 48-inches tall are admitted free. There is also free parking. For more information, call 610-478-6860.
