Cereplast Bio-Based Resin Introduced at Large Medical and Biotechnology Events in San Francisco
Posted on: Monday, 19 December 2005, 12:00 CST
Cereplast(TM), Inc. (OTCBB:CERP), producer of proprietary bio-based resins, announced today that its products were used to reduce waste at two large events in San Francisco. The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) and Kaiser Permanente recently used Cereplast products to reduce waste sent to landfills.
At a recent event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Cereplast-made cutlery was used by the 850 guests of The American Society for Cell Biology Annual meeting.
At another event held in San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente Employee Appreciation Event, with 2,200 staff and guests, was able to have all the waste recycled as a result of using utensils made from Cereplast resin and cups from NatureWorks PLA. The use of these products was a testimony of Kaiser Permanente's commitment to sustainability. The guests were very appreciative and the disposal was facilitated because all waste was deposited in a large green container and transported to a nearby composting site.
Although the bio-based food service ware looks identical to traditional plastic food service ware, Cereplast uses corn -- an annually-renewable resource -- as a raw material, instead of relying on petroleum. As such, the production of Cereplast uses less fossil fuel and emits fewer greenhouse gasses than comparable petroleum-based plastics.
Cereplast creates several bio-plastic resins that can be shaped into a variety of products, including utensils, containers, film and other packaging.
