Dec. 22–IDAHO FALLS — The 8-0 Twin Falls Bruins boys’ basketball team picked up its first Region Four-Five-Six win of the season, dominating the host Skyline Grizzlies 84-47 Wednesday night in Idaho Falls.

Brandon Stokes scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half, while senior forward Brady Jardine pumped in a game-high 21 to lead the Bruins. Twin Falls led 62-26 at the end of the third quarter before Skyline put up 21 fourth-quarter points against the Bruins reserves.

“We had a big night from Stokes,” Bruins assistant coach Shaun Walker said. “It was nice to see him get going.”

The Grizzlies were led by Andrew Belnap’s 14 points, while Brady Olson added 11. Tanner Simmons contributed 11 points for the Bruins, while Brock Harding added 10. The Bruins are back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Burley.

“It’s our first conference win and we feel good about it,” Walker said. “We’ll take a few days off and get back at it again.”

OAKLEY — Three Vikings scored in double figures as Valley ran away with this nonconference road game on Wednesday, downing Oakley 73-27.

Senior Travis Miller scored 17 points, Kendall Grant 14 and Ricardo Martinez 12. Valley led 48-21 at the break, pulling away for a 63-23 lead heading in into the fourth quarter.

Oakley was paced by John Pickett and Tyrel Marchant with eight points apiece.

SHOSHONE — The Camas County Mushers took advantage of turnovers to defeat the Shoshone Indians 47-24 Wednesday. Josh Shroyer led the scoring for the Mushers with 12 tailed by Chase Lee and Trevor Dalin with 11 apiece.

“Their pressure defense caused us some problems,” Indians head coach Larry Messick said.

The Indians’ Carl Dayton scored nine, all 3-point goals and Zach Shull added seven.

Shoshone (0-8) hosts Gooding on Thursday, Jan. 5.

DECLO — Brogan Darrington and Eric Sanders both pumped in 12 points to lead a balanced Declo Hornets squad past Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference rival Gooding, 64-42, Wednesday night.

Chad Allen scored 11 and Scott Briggs to lead four Hornets in double figures.

Junior guard Jack Stevens paced the Senators with 11 points.

MIDDLETON — Led by junior forward Will Chivers, the Buhl Indians outlasted the Middleton Vikings, 57-43, on Wednesday. Chivers scored 16 and was followed closely by Mitch Bourner with 15 and Judd Spencer with 14.

The game was close for all four quarters. However neither team could score much in the third. A 6-3 edge helped Buhl take a 37-29 lead into the final period.

“We were a little sluggish in the third quarter,” Buhl coach Ryan Bowman said. “But overall our kids played well.”

Buhl (6-2, 2-0) will host Wendell on Wednesday, Jan 4.

Richfield 35, Oakley 32

RICHFIELD — The host Richfield Tigers rallied from a 27-24 fourth-quarter deficit to down the visiting Oakley Hornets 35-32 Wednesday night in Richfield.

Cassie Wood put the 7-4 Tigers up 32-31 with 2:30 left, and Tigers teammates Michelle Kent and Breanna McAlister were able to hold the Hornets at bay with key free throws. Wood finished with a team-high 12 points, while Kent pumped in 11 of her own.

“There was never a break in the game as far as the score,” Tigers head coach Steve Kent said. “It was close from the beginning to the very end.”

Senior post Jenna Peterson led the Hornets with a game-high 15 points. She and her teammates limited the dangerous Tigers’ perimeter shooters to only 12-of-38 shooting from the field.

“(Oakley head coach) Brett (Graham) does a good job on defense,” Kent said. “We’ve played them six times since I’ve been here and every one has come down to the wire.”

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 6, hosting Shoshone.

“Our girls played hard,” Indian head coach Mitch Oparnico said. “But American Falls also played hard and shot early and often. They’re a good team.”

Kali Hess scored 16 to pace the Beavers.

Senior Breht Montgomery was the leading scorer for the 0-13 Indians with four. Buhl hosts Filer on Thursday, Jan. 5.

Kimberly sweeps Wood River triangular

HAILEY — Kimberly cruised to a 5-1 record in dual meets this winter with two wins at a Wood River triangular Wednesday, downing Wood River 63-18 and Burley 54-30.

The Bobcats defeated the host Wolverines, 60-6.

Kimberly returns to action at the Oakley Invitational next week.
