Turkish Minister Views Energy Development Needs

Ankara, 23 December: The Turkish minister of energy and natural resources, Hilmi Guler, has indicated that Turkey has to invest 130bn US dollars in the energy sector by 2020.
Taking the floor at “Fifth energy symposium” in Ankara, Guler said, “Energy is a complicated matter because it has several scientific and technical factors.”
Guler noted that according to the best scenario, Turkey’s energy need would be 406bn kilowatt-hours; on the other hand, according to the worst scenario, its energy need would rise to 496bn kilowatt- hours in 2020.
Nuclear energy
Stating that Turkey’s information and habits on nuclear energy should be reviewed, Guler noted, “Oil prices are rising. Natural gas prices are also climbing. Nuclear energy is a new energy instrument. We made necessary preparations regarding nuclear energy. We are going to make public a nuclear energy programme as a package soon.”
