Dec. 24--Students from Kulshan and Whatcom middle schools had a friendly competition to see who could donate the most in a canned food drive that concluded this week.
Whatcom students donated nearly 2,600 pounds of food, beating Kulshan's roughly 1,300 pounds. The food was given to the Bellingham Community Food Bank. Both schools have had canned food drives in the past, but the competition provided a little extra motivation for students and staff, the school principals said.
