Got some new electronics for Christmas and you don't know what to do with the old?
The city of Southaven has an answer: Recycle it.
On Jan. 7, the city will offer its first electronic recycling, or E-Recycling, day in the north parking lot of City Hall from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bradley Wallace, the city's environmental services director, said the E-recycling day is just one way the city's trying to expand its recycling program.
Right now, the city collects paper and metals. Yet, with a $6,000 grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, Wallace said the city hopes to continue E-recycling if the response is good.
"We really don't know what to expect," said Wallace, adding that the day is only for city residents, not businesses.
Wallace said it seems like an ideal time for E-recycling because electronics can become quickly outdated and people need to be able to replace it in an environmentally safe manner.
Wallace said the city will take any kind of electronics - TVs, computers, radios, etc.
If it rains, the event will be rescheduled to another day.
