Dec. 28–Customers of Exeter Family Restaurant could be drinking wine or beer with their meals by spring. And owner Joseph M. Nanouh envisions building a new banquet room for large parties. The 24-hour restaurant at 4800 Perkiomen Ave. has applied for a liquor license. A license-transfer hearing will be held at 8 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Exeter Township Municipal Building. "I’m thinking about the future," Nanouh said. "If I’m going to add a banquet room in the future, then I have to have a liquor license. But nothing like that for now. We’re not going to have cocktails." Nanouh has owned the restaurant for six years. He changed the name from Manny’s Family Restaurant several years ago. Nanouh tried to turn the restaurant’s basement into a banquet room, but banquet customers had to walk through the kitchen. The basement is now used for storage. "A lot of people are asking for a banquet room," Nanouh said, explaining that it’s difficult to accommodate large parties in the busy restaurant. Nanouh plans to design the addition on the east side of the property next year, even if the restaurant does not get approval for the liquor license. After the hearing, Exeter supervisors will have 45 days to decide if the license should be transferred from Sinking Spring, said Molly E. McGowan, a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board spokeswoman. If Exeter supervisors don’t approve the transfer, Nanouh could appeal to Berks County Court. Contact reporter Erin Negley at 610-371-5047 or enegley@reading eagle.com.
